The variety is a natural bud mutation of Pinot Noir and is considered an ancient European variety. The clusters are characterized by compactness, and the berries acquire a green or "uncolored" shade upon ripening, sometimes with pinkish or yellowish tones.
The variety is distinguished by high sugar content with moderate or low acidity, which gives the wines roundness. Like other representatives of Vitis vinifera, the grape requires standard agrotechnical care, including regular pruning and training of vines on a trellis.
