The variety is not related to the well-known Plavac Mali variety. In official sources, various plants may be hidden under the name Plavac Veli; in a number of cases, this name was erroneously applied to the Dobričić or Ljutun varieties.

The variety is a wine grape. It is characterized by large clusters and large, juicy berries with thin skin. It has a medium ripening period, however, historically it often failed to fully ripen, which caused the berries to remain sour.

Wine from this variety is described as light, red, with low tannin content and acidity in cases when maturity is reached. To this day, the variety is considered practically forgotten and endangered.
