The variety is native to the Lazio region and belongs to the species Vitis vinifera L. In 2010, it was included in the National Registry of Grape Varieties of Italy as part of a project to preserve regional biodiversity.
Rosciola is a red wine variety. Detailed agronomic characteristics, such as ripening periods, disease resistance parameters, or yield, are not widely available due to the long period during which the variety was poorly studied.
