The variety is the result of a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan. It is a mid-late variety with an open semi-upright crown shape. The leaf is rounded, five- or seven-lobed, very deeply dissected, with medium density pubescence on the underside. Bunches are medium, conical, of medium density. Berries are medium, rounded, dark blue in color with a thick waxy bloom, skin is of medium thickness, flesh is juicy.

The variety possesses high yield. It shows resistance to grey mold, however it is susceptible to powdery mildew. The grapes are used for the production of red wines, which are distinguished by intense color and aromas of red fruits with possible earthy or herbaceous notes. The variety is used both for blending and for creating varietal wines.
