The variety is historically associated with the sandy island of Susak in the Adriatic Sea. It is considered an ancient variety that was on the verge of extinction in the 20th century but was preserved on neighboring islands, particularly on the island of Krk.

A wine grape variety characterized by high yield and good adaptation to sandy soils, which previously provided it with resistance to phylloxera. The variety has a relatively low susceptibility to diseases and is capable of accumulating a sufficient sugar level.

Wines from this variety have a ruby color, good acidity, and moderate tannins. The flavor and aroma profile includes shades of wild berries, cherry, and floral tones, while aging in barrels develops notes of chocolate, tobacco, and spices.
