The variety has ancient Greek origins, presumably emerging in the Attica region. It is one of the most common varieties in Greece intended for wine production. It is traditionally used in blends to create Retsina, as well as for the production of single-varietal white wines.

The plant belongs to late maturity groups with a late budburst period. Morphologically, it is characterized by large clusters and medium-sized berries. The variety is distinguished by high yields and resistance to arid conditions, and it also demonstrates good resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew.

Wines produced from this grape possess moderate to high acidity, a "round" taste, and aromas of freshly cut grass and yellow fruits.
