The variety has a medium ripening period and vigorous vines. Genetically, it is a descendant of Pinot noir, originating from a natural cross. The name of the variety is associated with the feast of Saint Lawrence, when the berries begin to change color.
The plant is sensitive to weather conditions, particularly during the flowering period, which makes it prone to flower abortion. Frost resistance reaches -20 °C. The variety is susceptible to major fungal diseases of grapes, such as downy mildew and Botrytis.
The berries are dark blue, round or oval in shape, and possess a thick skin and juicy flesh with highly pigmented juice. Wines made from this grape are characterized by aromas of cherry, spices, and wild berries, and have aging potential. The variety is actively used as a parent form for breeding new hybrids.
