The variety is native to Greece and, according to genetic studies, originated from a natural cross between the Kontegalo and Vradiano varieties. The name of the variety translates from Greek as "fig".

The vine is characterized by high yield and a hermaphroditic flower type. The berries have a black skin color. The variety is grown primarily in the central part of Greece, as well as in the Macedonia and Thessaly regions.
