The variety is the result of a cross between Albillo Mayor and Benedicto. The plant is characterized by high vigor and productivity. The leaves are large, pentagonal, five-lobed, and bluish-green in color. The clusters are compact, cylindrical in shape, with rounded dark blue or black berries with thick skins.
The variety is sensitive to drought and requires contrasting temperatures with hot days and cool nights to preserve acidity. Wines from this grape possess a deep color and aromatic notes of red and black fruits, spices, tobacco, and leather.
