The variety is autochthonous to the province of Cadiz in Spain. It is a delicate plant with low yield, genetically close to the Graciano and Tinta Miuda varieties. The grape is characterized by a late ripening cycle, during which the transition from ripeness to a raisin state occurs extremely quickly.
The plant possesses a deep root system, allowing it to survive in hot climates on poor sandy and chalky soils. Small berries are used for the production of red dry, sweet, and fortified wines, possessing intense color, high acidity, pronounced minerality, and aromas of black berries.
