The variety belongs to the Vitis vinifera species and is historically known as Tinto Basto. The variety received its modern name "Pampana Blanca", meaning "white vine" or "white leaf", due to the pronounced pubescence on the underside of the leaf blade.
The plant is used in winemaking for the production of wines. The variety is distinguished by high productivity and a good level of berry acidity. In scientific literature, this grape is often studied in the context of seed morphometry and genetic connection with autochthonous varieties of Spain.
