The variety is native to the Castilla-La Mancha region in Spain. After a period of neglect, it was identified and included in the official register of commercial grape varieties authorized for cultivation in the region.

Tinto Fragoso belongs to red wine varieties. It is distinguished by good adaptation to climatic changes and resistance to arid conditions. Chemical analysis of the grapes revealed a high content of anthocyanins, flavonols, stilbenes, and other phenolic compounds.

It is used exclusively for the production of quality young red wines, which are characterized by high aroma intensity and taste density.
