The Espadeiro variety, also known as Caíño longo, is an indigenous variety of the northwestern Iberian Peninsula. The plant is productive, possesses drought tolerance, and the ability to adapt to poor soils. It has a sprawling growth habit and moderate susceptibility to powdery mildew, Botrytis, and phomopsis cane and leaf spot. The clusters require good exposure to light, but are sensitive to sunburn.

The Trincadeira Preta variety is a mid-late, high-yielding grape variety. The plant requires careful control of the balance between vigor and yield. The variety possesses resistance to heat and drought, but is susceptible to infection by powdery mildew, black rot, and sour rot.
