The variety is the result of a cross between Castets and breeding number I-35-9, the parentage of which included the varieties Teinturier du Cher, Aleatico, and Pukhliakovsky. The grape is classified as a mid-late to late-maturing variety and is characterized by high yield.
The plant possesses resistance to frost and Botrytis cinerea, but is susceptible to powdery mildew. Wines made from this variety are characterized by deep color, full body, high tannin and anthocyanin content, as well as an aromatic profile reminiscent of Cabernet Sauvignon.
