The variety is indigenous to the Castile and León region and was long considered almost extinct. Its genealogy has not been established; it is currently the subject of research projects aimed at restoration and preservation under changing climate conditions.
The variety is classified as a wine grape, characterized by a late maturity group and good disease resistance. Agronomic indicators are rated as good; the variety is capable of maintaining a balance of characteristics in changing climatic conditions.
Wines from this variety possess a deep color and pronounced tannins. The flavor profile is characterized by notes of dark fruits and blueberries, good acidity, and moderate alcohol content, while the wine structure remains rounded with possible light bitter notes in the finish.
