Vermentino Nero belongs to mid-late varieties with high vine vigor. The leaves are medium-sized, three-lobed. Clusters are medium-sized, cylindrical or pyramidal in shape, ranging from loose to moderately dense. The berries are medium or large, round or ellipsoidal, yellow-green in color, acquiring an amber hue when exposed to light.
The variety is characterized by high but unstable yields and susceptibility to oidium and botrytis, requiring well-drained and ventilated sites. Genetically, it is not a mutation of the Vermentino Bianco variety, despite the similar name.
Wines produced from this variety have a ruby-red color, medium structure, and a balanced taste. The aroma is dominated by shades of red and black fruits, including cherry, as well as floral notes of violet and wild rose.
