Vernaccia di San Gimignano is an ancient variety of folk selection, known since the 12th–13th centuries. The plant possesses good growth vigor and a spreading vine. Leaves are medium-sized, rounded or pentagonal, three-lobed. Clusters are quite large, elongated, conical in shape, often with a wing, and of medium density.

Berries are medium-sized, rounded, greenish-yellow or golden in color, covered with a thick waxy bloom. The pulp is juicy, the skin is firm. The variety matures in medium terms; harvesting usually falls at the end of September. Yield is characterized as abundant and consistent.

The variety has medium resistance to fungal diseases and low resistance to frost. The grapes are used exclusively for technical purposes for the production of white wines, which possess a straw-yellow color, a pronounced fruity aroma, and a characteristic almond aftertaste.
