Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety has medium-vigor vines with small to medium, deeply dissected leaves. The flower is hermaphroditic. Bunches are medium-sized, elongated, often winged, and of moderate density. Berries are black, oval, medium-sized, with thin skin and a waxy bloom.

Vespolina belongs to mid-ripening varieties, maturing at the end of September. Yield is characterized as medium or low. The variety is demanding of growing conditions, demonstrates low resistance to fungal diseases and sensitivity to drought, and prefers light and fresh soils.

Wines from this variety possess saturated color, high acidity, and a spicy aroma with hints of black pepper and forest berries. Vespolina is traditionally used in blends with Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Croatina varieties to improve aromatic characteristics and wine balance.
