The variety originates from the Aragon region, Spain. Vines are characterized by vigorous shoot growth and are often trained as low-growing bushes. The plant is well-adapted to poor calcareous soils and arid conditions, and possesses resistance to powdery mildew and oidium.
The berries of the variety are large, dark-colored, with thick skins. When using modern winemaking techniques, the grapes produce wines with good structure and aging potential, featuring aromatic notes of forest berries, plum, violet, licorice, as well as spicy and mineral nuances.
