Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is an autochthon, historically associated with Central Greece and the island of Euboea. The name originates from the Greek word vradys, meaning "late," which reflects the long ripening period, ending in some years in October.

Morphologically, the variety is characterized by large, round, five-lobed leaves with deep sinuses and a closed petiolar sinus. The underside of the leaf is devoid of pubescence. The letter N in the name stands for "noir," indicating the dark color of the berries.

Wines made from Vradiano grapes are distinguished by a soft taste with pronounced tannins and a complex aromatic profile including notes of sweet cherry, nuts, spices, and forest floor. The variety was close to extinction due to phylloxera, but is currently being actively restored by wineries.
