The variety is an autochthon of the Catalonia region of Spain and is a somatic mutation of the white grape Xarel-lo, also known by the names Xarel-lo Vermell or Pansa Roja. It is extremely rare and found primarily in coastal vineyards around Alella.

Technically, the variety is characterized by medium-small, conical, and compact bunches. The berries have a reddish color and a relatively thick skin, providing protection against diseases.

The grape is used exclusively in winemaking to create rosé wines. Due to the low tannin content, the color of the finished product varies from yellow-orange to dark salmon, and the flavor profile highlights notes of grapefruit, apple, pear, apricot, and mint.
