The variety is the result of a natural cross between the Sulmer and Noir Hatif de Marseille varieties. The grape is early-ripening and characterized by high hardiness. Bunches are small in size with a loose structure.

The variety is used primarily in winemaking to create red wines distinguished by a purple color, soft tannins, and a pronounced muscat aroma. The grapes are capable of accumulating a significant level of sugar content by the time of harvest.
