Softwood cutting is a highly effective method for propagating most cherry plum varieties, surpassing many stone fruit crops, including plum, in terms of survival rates. Own-rooted plants obtained by this method have the ability to restore their varietal aerial parts in case of damage and demonstrate increased yield.

When switching to the use of hardwood cuttings, pronounced varietal differences become apparent.
