Solanum tuberosum L.
A fungal disease of potatoes that manifests in two forms: Fusarium wilt during the growing season and dry rot of tubers during storage. The causative agents are a complex of fungi of the genus Fusarium, which infect the plant's vascular system and tuber tissues.

The disease is caused by phytopathogenic fungi of the genus Fusarium, including species such as F. sambucinum, F. oxysporum, F. solani, F. avenaceum, and F. culmorum. F. nirenbergiae and F. proliferatum are also involved. Classification into pathotypes or races for this disease has not been developed, as the pathogenic complex is highly variable.
Fusarium wilt appears during the flowering phase: upper leaves become pale, curl into a boat shape and dry out, stems turn brown, and discoloration of the vascular bundles is observed upon cross-section. Tuber dry rot is characterized by the appearance of depressed grayish-brown spots, wrinkling of the skin, and the formation of dry, decayed flesh with cavities filled with mycelium.
Resistance to Fusarium in potatoes is a quantitative polygenic trait; specific resistance genes have not been identified. Breeding evaluation of cultivars is conducted based on field and laboratory trials that determine the degree of susceptibility or resistance in points.
