Corylus avellana L.
A fungal disease of hazel, caused primarily by the pathogen Monilinia coryli, affecting the plant's reproductive organs. The disease manifests as nut rot, leading to a reduction in commercial quality and overall yield.

The causative agents of hazel moniliosis are fungi of the genus Monilinia, among which the species Monilinia coryli is considered the most pathogenic to the crop. Species such as Monilinia fructigena and Monilinia laxa may also be involved in pathogenesis, although no specific intraspecific races or pathotypes for hazel have been identified.
Unlike fruit crops that suffer from blossom and twig blight, the primary form of damage in hazel is ovary and fruit rot. Specific resistance genes to this disease in Corylus avellana have not been described; therefore, breeding work is based on the evaluation of the general field resistance of samples.
