Pyrus communis L.
A fungal disease of pear trees manifesting as fruit rot and blossom blight. The causative agent is predominantly the ascomycete Monilinia fructigena.
In the reference 35 varieties crop European pear, where this is mentioned in the description.
The primary pathogen of fruit rot in pears is the ascomycete Monilinia fructigena, whereas blossom blight is more commonly associated with the fungus Monilinia cinerea. Resistance of pear cultivars to this disease is polygenic in nature, and specific resistance genes have not been identified.
With fruit rot, brown spots form on the pear fruits, and the flesh becomes spongy and develops an alcoholic taste. Conidial spore cushions, often arranged in concentric circles, form on the fruit surface. Under storage conditions, the fruits mummify, turn black, and develop a glossy sheen.
Blossom blight manifests as the browning and wilting of flowers, ovaries, and fruit twigs, which do not fall off for a long time. The penetration of mycelium into the wood can lead to the death of affected branches. Intraspecific differentiation of the pathogen into specific races for pears is not applied in agronomic practice.
