Variety traits

Pear yield

Pyrus communis L.

A complex economic and biological trait of the pear, defined as the fruit weight per tree or total harvest per unit area, which depends on scion-rootstock combinations and cultivation conditions.

In the reference 291 varieties crop European pear, where this is mentioned in the description.

To evaluate pear productivity, indicators of fruit weight per tree (kg/tree) and yield per unit area (t/ha or c/ha) are used. When analyzing cultivars, early bearing, regularity of fruiting, and the dynamics of yield accumulation depending on the tree age are taken into account.

Pear yield levels vary from intensive orchards, where indicators can reach 300–500 c/ha, to regional studies in high-risk farming zones with indicators of 20–190 c/ha. The trait is decisively influenced by the rootstock, planting scheme, crown shape, and micronutrient availability.

The genetic potential of a cultivar is realized by considering the crop's sensitivity to soil moisture and the presence of carbonates. Yield stability is often limited by damage to generative organs from spring frosts and nutritional imbalances, particularly an excess of nitrogen fertilizers during the summer period.
