Average yield indicators for European plum under standard conditions range from 15–25 t/ha, reaching 35–50 t/ha or more with intensive cultivation technologies. In cultivar trials, high-yielding varieties are those capable of producing 60–80 kg of fruit per tree.
Plum yield is determined by the biological characteristics of the cultivar, including self-fertility and the winter hardiness of generative buds. The use of dwarfing clonal rootstocks allows for a significant increase in the specific productivity of orchards; however, a heavy fruit load creates a risk of branch breakage, which necessitates canopy training and the installation of supports.
