Raspberry Mosaic Virus Complex

A complex of viral diseases of raspberry caused by a combination of pathogens (BRNV, RLMV, RYNV) transmitted by aphids. It is characterized by chlorotic spotting, leaf deformation, and reduced productivity.

The raspberry mosaic complex is a joint infectious process initiated by a combination of viruses such as Black Raspberry Necrosis Virus, Raspberry Leaf Mottle Virus, and Raspberry Yellow Net Virus. The primary vectors for the transmission of this infection are aphids of the species Amphorophora rubi and Amphorophora agathonica. The symptoms of the disease manifest as light green or yellow spots, the formation of a net-like pattern along the veins, crinkling of the leaf blade, and general suppression of shoot vigor.

Disease diagnosis is complicated by a long latent period during which the raspberry plant acts as an asymptomatic carrier of the pathogens. Raspberry Bushy Dwarf Virus (RBDV) often accompanies this complex, causing crumbly fruit, although it is transmitted primarily through pollen. In breeding programs, the dominant resistance gene Bu, identified using specific DNA markers, is used to combat RBDV.
