A group of viral potato diseases classified by symptoms and pathogens (PVY, PVX, PVS, PVM, PVA, PAMV). The diseases manifest as crinkling, mottling, or necrosis, causing stunted growth and yield reduction.

Potato mosaic viruses are caused by a complex of pathogens, including Potato virus Y (PVY), Potato virus X (PVX), and Potato aucuba mosaic virus (PAMV). Crinkle mosaic is characterized by the blistering of leaf blades and shortening of internodes, which leads to premature senescence. Mottled mosaic manifests as light-colored spots, while aucuba mosaic appears as bright yellow spots on leaves and internal tuber necrosis.
The pathogens are characterized by strain diversity; for example, PVY groups PVYⁿ, PVYᵒ, and PVYᶜ are distinguished, causing various types of necrosis, including Potato tuber necrotic ringspot disease (PTNRD). Potato resistance to these viruses is provided by specific genes: the Rysto gene provides immunity to PVY, while the Ns, Rm, and Gm genes are responsible for resistance to PVM.
