Solanum tuberosum L.
An important morphological trait of potatoes, defined as the distance from the soil surface to the tips of the stems or leaves. It varies from 30 to 150 cm, reflecting the development potential of the above-ground biomass and the photosynthetic apparatus.

To measure plant height, a vertically placed graduated rod is used to determine the distance from the soil to the highest vegetative part of the plant. Plant height is directly related to productivity, as robust foliage ensures active photosynthesis and the accumulation of nutrients in the tubers. However, excessive development can lead to mutual shading in dense plantings, while unfavorable conditions, such as lack of light or high temperatures, can provoke excessive stem elongation to the detriment of the yield.
This trait is a varietal characteristic and is considered when determining optimal planting density. Furthermore, plant height dictates the technological requirements for ridging, as well as the timing and methods for desiccating the haulm before harvest.
