Malling Merton 109 = MM 109

Active

Malus pumila L. Mill. Paradise apple · Fruit crops · bred by EAST MALLING RESEARCH ST. (GB)

also searched as: маллинг мертон 109 мм 109

Variety description

10 August 2026

The rootstock was obtained as a result of hybridization of M.2 forms and the Northern Spy variety. The plant is characterized by a vigor of about 80% of the size of a tree on a seedling rootstock.

The main disadvantage of MM 109 is the weak development of the root system, leading to poor anchorage and the need for additional tree support. The rootstock is also noted as being difficult to root, which is why its use in the commercial sector is considered impractical.
