The variety is a hybrid. The combination of Golden Delicious and Cox’s Orange Pippin is most often cited as the parents; data on origin from a cross between the varieties Geheimrat Doktor Oldenburg and Cox’s Orange Pippin also exist.
The apple fruits have a width of 73–80 mm and a height of 60–68 mm. A high concentration of butyl acetate is noted in the fruit composition. The variety can be consumed fresh or dried. A form exists, “Dukat Spur,” which possesses a compact tree growth habit.
