Rootstock P 22 was obtained by crossing varieties M.9 and Antonovka obyknovennaya. Trees grafted onto this rootstock reach only 15–30% of the size of a tree on a seedling rootstock. Plants are characterized by high precocity and good winter hardiness.
The rootstock possesses resistance to collar rot, scab, and powdery mildew. At the same time, it is moderately susceptible to fire blight and highly susceptible to woolly apple aphid. The subclone P 22/J was studied for its effect on the growth and productivity of popular apple varieties in intensive horticulture.
