The P 22/S rootstock is a clone selected after a virus-free certification procedure. It belongs to the dwarf rootstock group with vigor comparable to M 27. It promotes early bearing and high tree yield. Due to the weak growth of scions on this rootstock, trees require permanent support throughout their life.
The plant possesses good winter hardiness and resistance to crown and root rot, surpassing the M 27 rootstock in root system development. At the same time, it is moderately susceptible to fire blight and highly susceptible to woolly apple aphid. In the stool bed, P 22/S is characterized by stiff shoots and low rooting ability.
