The P 2 rootstock provides trees with limited vigor comparable to M.9 and promotes their early entry into fruiting. The form is characterized by good winter hardiness and resistance to scab, powdery mildew, and collar rot, but shows sensitivity to fire blight and woolly apple aphid.
Trees grafted on P 2 require mandatory support installation due to the characteristics of the root system. The rootstock prefers fertile soils and tolerates excessive moisture poorly, but withstands short-term drought better than M.9. In nursery conditions, it propagates with more difficulty than the M.9 rootstock.
