Rootstock P 61 is a representative of the "P" (Polska) series of rootstocks developed at the Research Institute of Horticulture in Skierniewice. Its main characteristic is the ability to significantly restrict the growth of the scion variety, which classifies it as a super-dwarfing type.
The use of this rootstock influences the biochemical composition of the fruits of grafted varieties, in particular, contributing to a higher concentration of certain phenolic compounds. The use of the rootstock requires consideration of climatic conditions, as issues regarding winter hardiness and plant survival are noted in a number of regions.
