The Azeiteira variety is autochthonous to Portugal and is widespread in the Alto Alentejo and Beira Interior regions. The plant possesses high growth vigor, vertical orientation of branches, and early entry into fruiting. The variety is prone to biennial bearing.

The fruits are characterized by a low flesh-to-pit ratio and high attachment strength to the peduncle, which complicates mechanical harvesting. At the same time, intense natural shedding is observed at the end of ripening.

The variety is resistant to Verticillium wilt and peacock spot (Cycloconium oleaginum), but is vulnerable to the olive fruit fly, olive knot (Pseudomonas savastanoi), scale insects, and sooty mold.
