The variety is native to the Nuoro region on the island of Sardinia and is often referred to as a synonym for the Majorca variety, which is also known by the names Maiorchina or Majorchina. The variety was formed as a result of natural selection and folk breeding.
The tree is distinguished by high vigor and has a spreading canopy of medium density. The fruits have an elliptical shape. The variety is classified as having a dual purpose, suitable both for table use and for oil production, and is included in germplasm collections for study.
