The variety is endemic to the province of Salerno, formed as a result of long-term adaptation to the climatic conditions of the Cilento mountain region. It belongs to oil-producing varieties and represents a landrace preserved for centuries through vegetative propagation.
Oil from the fruits of this variety possesses herbaceous aromas of freshly cut grass, unripe tomatoes, marjoram, and rosemary. The taste is characterized by balanced pungency and bitterness with notes of artichoke, fresh almond, and chicory.
The plant is adapted to local conditions, including drought periods characteristic of southern Italy. The variety is actively used in modern plantings for the conservation of biodiversity and support of traditional production.
