The variety is autochthonous to the Lazio region, traditionally grown in the province of Viterbo. The tree is characterized as rustic and undemanding, adapting well to stony soils of volcanic origin.

The fruits are used almost exclusively for the production of extra virgin olive oil. The oil possesses a pronounced bitterness and spiciness, contains a high amount of polyphenols, and the aroma features notes of artichoke, green tomato, and almond.
