The name Cañivano Blanco in agronomic literature and genetic research is not an independent variety. Results of genetic analysis of world olive collections have confirmed that the plants traditionally called Cañivano Blanco in Andalusia are genetically identical to the Picholine Marrocaine variety.
This designation is a historically established synonym that emerged as a result of the exchange of plant material in the Mediterranean. The characteristics of the plant should be considered through the Picholine Marrocaine variety, which belongs to the dual-purpose category and is suitable for both oil production and table use.
