An ancient local cultivar historically associated with the Trabocchi coast. The fruit is large, round in shape, and suitable for both table olive use and oil extraction. The oil is characterized by a delicate, balanced taste with notes of nut and greens.
The variety is characterized by late ripening, self-incompatibility, and a tendency toward irregular bearing with a high level of ovary abortion. The plant requires pollinator varieties, is sensitive to the olive fruit fly, and is prone to premature fruit drop.
Known by the synonyms Chietina, Francavillese, Oliva del mezzadro, Testicolo di gallo, Olivoce. The variety is a folk cultivar and holds Slow Food product status.
