Maçanilha de Tavira, also known as Maçanilha Algarvia, is a local genetic resource common in the Algarve region. The variety is classified as dual-purpose and is actively preserved within genetic diversity maintenance programs.
The fruits of this variety are distinguished by their large size, with an average weight of about 10 g, and a rounded apex shape. The variety ripens early, reaching a stage of technical maturity suitable for processing into table olives at relatively early dates compared to other local varieties.
In field trials, the variety demonstrates good productivity indicators, proving itself as promising material for cultivation. The morphological characteristics of the fruits include the presence of lenticels, the sizes of which vary from medium to large.
