The Madural variety, also known as Cercial or Negral, is an autochthonous Portuguese variety. The tree has medium vigor with an open-type crown and is distinguished by its resistance to cold, heat, and arid soils. To ensure yield, the variety requires the presence of pollinators, as it is often self-sterile.
The fruits have an olive-shaped asymmetric form and an average weight of 2 to 4 grams, turning black upon ripening. Fruiting is characterized by a tendency towards alternate bearing, and onset of production occurs in the medium term. The variety's oil is valued for its balanced taste with nutty and grassy notes, as well as a light bitterness.
