The variety is traditionally grown in Spain, in the province of Jaen. Genetic studies confirm its individuality and distinction from other varieties, such as Manzanilla de Sevilla. The variety is diploid and is often subject to genetic mapping for identification.

The fruits of the variety are used to produce olive oil, which is highly valued and often used in blends with other varieties, for example, Picual, Verdial, and Royal. Detailed agronomic data on tree characteristics and disease resistance in publications are limited.
