The variety is native to Spain, historically associated with the Andalusia region and southern Extremadura. It belongs to the “Manzanilla” group of varieties and has many synonyms, including Bolondo, Manzanilla Serrana, Perillo, and Morisco.
The fruits of the variety are suitable for both olive oil production and canning. Currently, the variety is cultivated on an area of about 8 000 hectares. MANZANILLA_PRIETA is considered a traditional landrace variety, which is part of a complex group of varieties.
