The variety originates from the Tuscany region, Italy, and takes its name from the municipality of Suvereto. It belongs to local genetic resources and is the result of folk selection, having adapted to local conditions over the centuries.

The plant is distinguished by low yield and unstable fruit bearing, which has led to a decrease in interest from large-scale producers. The oil obtained from the fruits of this variety possesses an intense flavor with herbal notes and a characteristic bitter aftertaste.
