The variety is a local ecotype formed as a result of folk selection and adaptation to the climatic conditions in the area of the Montenero di Bisaccia municipality. Unlike wild forms of olives, this variety is classified as a cultivated variety.

Within the framework of studies dedicated to high-density olive tree plantings, the productivity of the variety was estimated at 7.8 t/ha. The plant is used in experimental orchard management programs and is included in germplasm field collections.
