ROYETA DE ASQUE, also known as Cerezera, is a local variety of the Somontano region. Trees of this variety are characterized by low vigor and adaptability to cold climates. Existing specimens historically trace back to one mother tree, which is approximately 100 years old.
The variety possesses hardiness to diseases such as olive knot and peacock spot, and also shows high tolerance to aluminum toxicity in the soil. The variety is an oilseed type; fruits of early maturity produce oil with a high oleic acid content, but are more often used in blends.
